Filmmaker Rohit Shetty holds that deep friendships can be found in the film industry, contrary to popular opinion.

I value these kinds of deep friendships very much, where we can discuss our ideas, plans, and concerns. It’s a feeling that can’t be replicated by superficial relationships. It’s when we can rely on each other in our darkest hour, and that’s what truly matters.

Rohit Shetty, the director of hit films like Singham, Simmba, and Golmaal, says that friendships and betrayals are a natural part of any profession. He believes that these relationships are just as important as the work itself, and that they can even make or break a career.

Karan Johar, on the other hand, has been a mentor and a friend to Rohit Shetty. Their bond is built on mutual respect and admiration for each other’s work.

“Relations like these are rarely made,” said Rohit Shetty. “There are only 2-3 people I can call up at 2 am. There’s Ajay sir, Ranveer Singh, Deepika. I’m very close to them. When only the last schedule of our film (Singham Again) was pending, Deepika was four months pregnant. But she came for the shoot. Relations like these are rarely made,” said Rohit Shetty.

Rohit Shetty also spoke about his experience of attending film trial shows. He said that he usually stays away from them, but made an exception for Deepika Padukone’s Padmaavat in 2018. He explained that he believes it’s unfair to give a film a positive review just because the person inviting you is hopeful that you’ll say it’s good. Instead, he prefers to give an honest review, even if it means disappointing the person inviting him.

“Invitations have stopped coming now because people know I won’t come. They’ve stopped completely for trials. If I don’t like a film, how do I say as much? The one who’s invited you is hopeful that you’d say it’s good. That’s cheating. That’s why I fear trials. The last time I went for a trial was when Deepika called me for Padmaavat. I really liked it. There were a lot of issues going on then, so Deepika requested that we all come together. I said, ‘Definitely, why not’,” said Rohit Shetty.
