As the sequel to the 2016 action-thriller film, The Accountant, the upcoming movie promises to bring more comedy and action than the original.
The Accountant 2 is set years after the events of the first film, and it follows Christian Wolff, played by Ben Affleck, as he tries to figure out who killed Raymond King, played by J.K. Simmons. The movie will also introduce new characters, including Agent Medina, played by Cynthia Addai-Robinson, who will work with Christian to solve the case. During an interview with ScreenRant, Addai-Robinson and co-star Daniella Pineda discussed the differences between the two films. Addai-Robinson admitted that she was surprised by the story when she read the script for the sequel, but is confident that the film will live up to the first movie while also introducing new elements.
“I, like you, wondered when I returned for the sequel, I thought, ‘Okay, when we last saw Marybeth, JK, as Ray King, was sort of handing over the baton. She’s stepping into that role.’ And then, when I read the script, without giving any spoilers away, I thought, ‘Oh, okay, this isn’t going to be quite what I thought for what Marybeth is going to experience.’ But I just was very excited to get to revisit this character and this world again, because it just felt like there was more story to tell. You wanted to know, ‘Well, what does happen to these characters when you leave them in the first movie?’ So, I think we have done what is very difficult to do, which is make a sequel that lives up to the original and heightens everything, elevates everything, and gives you even more. So, I’m really proud, and I’m very excited, because I feel like audiences who love the first one are really going to love the second one.”
“People might be saying the second one might be pretty good,” Pineda said with a smile. “I think it’s going to be a great experience for the audience, with a lot of humor, and also some bigger action scenes.”

The Accountant 2 is set to bring Christian, Braxton, and Agent Medina together to solve the murder of Raymond King. The trailer establishes that the three will have a lot of banter with each other, adding a lot of humor to the film. Additionally, the trailer reveals a heightened action scene featuring Christian and Braxton taking on a slew of enemies. One of the biggest changes from the original film is the tone. The Accountant 2 has a slightly different tone, with a greater emphasis on humor.
“We didn’t necessarily have a lot of humor in the first one,” Addai-Robinson said. “But we’re definitely bringing that in this time around, and I think it’s going to be a big difference for the audience.”
As for the action, the trailer reveals a heightened set of scenes that will keep the audience on the edge of their seats.
“The action scenes are going to be bigger and more intense,” Pineda said. “We’re going to give the audience a lot to see and experience.”
The Accountant 2 will also introduce new characters that will add an added element to the story.
“We’re introducing new characters that are going to bring in a new level of complexity to the story,” Addai-Robinson said. “And I think that’s going to be really exciting for the audience.”
The movie will also explore the relationship between Christian and Braxton, who haven’t seen each other in years.
“The dynamic between Christian and Braxton is going to be really interesting,” Pineda said. “It’s been years since they’ve seen each other, and there’s definitely going to be some tension and conflict between them.”
The Accountant 2 will have a lot to offer for fans of the original film.
“I think audiences who love the first one are going to be really happy with the sequel,” Addai-Robinson said.
