About FilmBurst
Our Mission
FilmBurst was founded with a simple yet powerful mission: to help filmmakers and cinephiles everywhere make smarter decisions, through approachable guidance and free tools that make planning a production budget, converting movie ratings, estimating box-office results, and scheduling a movie marathon clearer, more rewarding, and more practical.
We believe that everyone who makes films or dreams of making them, from first-time filmmakers to seasoned cinephiles, deserves access to accurate tools, comprehensive resources, and trustworthy guidance. Our platform bridges the gap between confusing logistics and confident, well-informed decisions about films and production planning, budgets and box office, cinematography and editing, independent and short films, hidden gems, and making films smart.
Through our free collection of tools, we help filmmakers make informed decisions about production budgets, movie marathon schedules, rating-scale conversions, box-office projections, screen-time breakdowns, and festival strategy. Every tool is designed with real-world applicability in mind, tested against the day-to-day realities of planning, producing, and screening a film, and continuously improved based on user feedback. To go deeper, explore our Cinema & Film museum, with galleries on iconic films and landmark movements, legendary directors and performers, celebrated festivals and studios, and the craft behind every great film.
Our Story
FilmBurst emerged from a need we experienced firsthand. While trying to sort through conflicting advice and scattered references, we noticed a common challenge: the lack of accessible, accurate tools for the everyday decisions that come with planning a film, running the numbers on a production budget, and making the most of every screening.
Smart filmmaking relies heavily on curiosity and a little know-how, which are invaluable. However, a confident filmmaker also benefits from clear answers about how a production budget breaks down, how one rating scale maps to another, how a film might perform at the box office, how long a cut runs, and how to plan a festival strategy. We saw an opportunity to combine well-researched film knowledge with modern tools to help people make confident decisions about every film.
Our team began developing tools that we wished existed when we planned our first productions. Each calculator and guide was created to solve real problems encountered when budgeting a film, predicting box office, or scheduling a marathon of favorites. We tested every tool against real-world numbers, refined the logic based on feedback, and ensured that the results reflected current, widely accepted film-industry practice.
Today, FilmBurst serves active users worldwide, from first-time filmmakers to lifelong film enthusiasts. Our tools have helped people budget productions, plan movie marathons, convert ratings, estimate box office, break down screen time, and map festival strategy, and make more deliberate, confident film decisions.
