Artistic representation for Community Film Project Sparks New Talent in Teesside

The Tees Valley International Film Festival (TVIFF) has been promoting the film industry in the region for several years, and now it’s taking the initiative to bring a community film project to life. Spearheaded by the Hartlepool-based filmmaking collective In The Frame, this project is the brainchild of Alice Pargiter, who has been working tirelessly to bring together local filmmakers, actors, and writers to create a short film.

Call to Action

The project began with a call for local writers to submit their scripts for a short film, and the winning script, Lucky Penny, is a Teesside-based comedy drama written by Max Ferguson. Ferguson is a graduate of the Northern School of Art, and he is thrilled that his idea will be brought to life on the big screen.

“I’m overjoyed that my idea is being turned into a project on a much bigger scale than anything I have worked on before! I can’t wait to see it develop and eventually be on a cinema screen,”

The project is set to be premiered at the TVIFF meeting in October, followed by a special screening at the ARC in November. To help fund the project, a crowdfunding page has been set up, and details can be found on the In The Frame social media channels.

Collaborative Approach

In The Frame meets once a month in Hartlepool, where attendees enjoy screenings of short films by emerging local filmmakers and presentations by film industry professionals. The initiative is a testament to the growing filmmaking community in the region, and it provides an inclusive environment for anyone to get involved, regardless of their experience in film. Alice Pargiter, founder of In The Frame, said: “The growth of In The Frame over the past year told us that our burgeoning filmmaking community could make a collaborative film. In doing so, we would also create an environment that provides inclusive opportunity for anyone to get involved in, at an extent they feel comfortable with, regardless of their experience in film.”

Tee Valley International Film Festival’s Support

The TVIFF has been a strong supporter of In The Frame, and Director Michael Luke said: “We’ve always been very proud of our relationship with In The Frame. Alice and the team whole heartedly share our aim of kickstarting a new generation of filmmaker, actor, and writer within the Tees Valley. It’s initiatives like this community film that will unearth and encourage the next Ridley Scott.”
